2nd Quarter Science Projects

Today, I assigned the 2nd Quarter Science Projects.  Your child has a description of the assignment and a rubric to know what is expected.  This is a two-part project.  Their first part is creating a solar system.  We will not have time to work on his part in class.  However, the 2nd part - a PowerPoint presentation - will be completed in class in groups.

Your child will receive two separate grades for this.  On grade will be for the solar system itself.  The other grade will be for the PowerPoint.  The PowerPoint's grades will come from 2 sources - first, the grade from me, second, a grade from their peers in their group.  The description, rubric, and evaluation have been saved in the Forms sections for your convenience.

Report Cards and Parent Teacher Conferences are this week!  Wednesday, your child will be bringing home his/report card.  Thursday, we will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences.  Your child was sent a note home with the details about this.  Please don't forget to sign up for your time so we can schedule you in if you are coming.

Burger King Nights

Changes have been made to our long tradition of Burger King nights. Burger King is no longer allowing schools to have individual nights for receipt collections for fundraising.  Elementary school nights will be on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. beginning today. We encourage you to support our school by going on Tuesdays.  You will need to inform the cashier the name of our school is Community Elementary School and make sure it is written on the receipt in order for our school to receive funds.  We appreciate your continued support and hope you have a great evening.

Baby Photos

I would like to share with you about our 5th grade yearbook project.  In the 5th grade section of the yearbook, we put your child's 5th grade picture next to their baby picture.  The side-by-side comparison makes for a great 5th grade section.  (Fair is fair.  The 5th grade teachers submit baby pictures that are in there as well.)  If you would please send your child with a baby picture, it will be scanned and returned either the same day or the next day.  If you'd rather not send a printed photograph, you are welcome to email the photo to me.
