1997-2005 East Side Primary Shelbyville, TN-First Grade teacher, librarian and bus driver.

2005-present Community Elementary School-Librarian

I was born on November 26, 1961 in Palestine, Texas to Bill and Lavada Jenkins.  I was the third of six children and grew up in many different places mainly Texas, New Mexico, Kentucky and Tennessee.   As a child we moved frequently. Not because of being in a military family, as many people might think.   My father was a cattle buyer and my mother was a homemaker, so we moved whenever a better paying job came along for my father.   I feel that Bedford County is truly my home since I have lived here for twenty-eight years.  I have lived in Bell Buckle, Wartrace and Normandy and presently live in Shelbyville with my husband Randy and my german shepherd, Warko (pronounced Varko). We have three grown children Charles Simmons (Rachel), Christa Garcia Dill (Eliot), and Elisha (Eli) Garcia (Jessica).  We have three grandchildren, Aliviah (13), Brayden (5) Hudson (2) and several grand-dogs (Geno, Dax and Titan).

I love being outside and mainly enjoy yard work, camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, kayaking and reading of course! I also love spending time with my children and grandchildren.

I obtained my teaching degree in 1997 from Middle Tennessee State University.  Prior to that I worked for Calsonic Manufacturing as a buyer in their purchasing department.  After working there several years I decided to go back to school and pursue a elementary teaching degree.  After graduating I taught first grade at East Side Primary in Shelbyville for eight years.  Five of those years I also drove a school bus and was working on my master's degree in Library Science which I obtained in 2003. I was hired as Librarian/Media Specialist at Community Elementary in 2005.  This will be my 10th year at this school and I love this community of learners and hope to be here for many more years.
